Field Trips allow students to learn in meaningful ways beyond the classroom walls. They are typically the most memorable part of the student’s year in school. The learning connections as well as the memories established on these trips help to bring learning alive at CDS.
Students in prekindergarten through grade eight participate in off-campus field trips and travel as a group by bus. Parent volunteers occasionally accompany students on these trips at grade-appropriate levels.
A few favorite memories from our recent field trips:
- Finding a turtle crossing our path while hiking at Duke Farms and searching for the turtle’s habitat. We also found a snake!
- Taking the boat to Ellis Island with the third and sixth graders.
- Learning how to grow and feed a community from Farmer Sean at Grow it Green Morristown.
- Completing our space challenge within a simulated space station at Buehler Challenger and Science Center!
- Creating a house made entirely of magnetic tiles at Genius Gems.
- Taking a Mindful Moment while exploring the National Museum of African American History and Culture and visiting one of Mr. Buffum’s favorite burger joints in Washington, D.C.
- Creating over 1,500 pasta bags at the Community Food Bank of New Jersey.
- Making s’mores around the campfire at Frost Valley.
