Advisory & Clubs

Advisory & Clubs

Advisory meetings are a casual yet carefully designed opportunity for students to share their triumphs and challenges with one another while building their interpersonal skills.

Our CDS Advisory program allows each child and family in grades four through eight have one designated adult “guide” to help navigate the school year. In addition to serving as the primary point of communication for parents and children, the advisor also:

  • Oversees academic progress of individual students
  • Facilitates development of time management, study, and organizational skills
  • Coordinates with our school counselor to include social-emotional learning
  • Helps to plan special events, field trips, and programs for the grade-level
  • Communicates proactively with parents regarding individual progress as well as relevant grade-level issues/needs
  • Runs brief advisory periods each day to discuss homework, group check-ins, and organizational needs
  • Oversees a scheduled study hall/homework lab and meeting periods over the course of the week for service projects, buddy time, and grade level meetings

CDS Student Clubs in the Middle & Upper School divisions serve two purposes: one, to bring peers from multiple grade levels together to share their common interests; and two, to provide leadership opportunities to all of our most “senior” students on campus. Clubs run on a trimester basis so that students have the chance to participate in and/or lead a variety of peer groups. We host two Club Fairs each year at which club presidents/officers design display boards and encourage classmates to join. Over the past two school years, Middle & Upper School Clubs have included:

  • Sports Club
  • Mindfulness and Relaxation Club
  • Board Games Club
  • Arts and Crafts Club
  • Film Club
  • Jam Band
  • Dungeons & Dragons Club
  • Yoga Club
  • Preschool Helpers
