Applying to CDS

Applying to CDS

Step 1 – Visit CDS

The best way to learn more about Chatham Day School is through a private tour. You will be able to meet our faculty, experience classes, and ask questions. Please call the Office of Admission at 973.410.0400 ext. 15 to schedule a tour.

Step 2 – Submit an Application

The application process is completed entirely online. Please click the Apply button below to submit an application. You will also need to print and provide your child’s current school with the teacher recommendation form (students applying for prek – grade 8) and transcript release form (students applying for grades 1-8). These can be found by clicking the following links:

Step 3 – Student Visit

Once we have received the application, our office will contact you to schedule an admission visit for your child.

-Students applying to our Early Childhood program have the option of visiting for an hour with a parent or staying for the half or full day sessions without a caregiver present. We trust you to know your child’s comfort level best and to make sure the visit is a positive experience for you and your child.

-Students applying for kindergarten will visit with the prekindergarten class for either the morning session (8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.) or for the full day (8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.) depending on the parent and student preference.
-Students applying for grades 1-8 will visit for the entire school day (8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.) with their current grade level. Students applying for grades 6-8 will also be required to complete a math and writing assessment in the admission office during their visit. Lunch and snack are provided for all full day admission visitors.

Step 4 – Decision Notification

Once complete, applicant files will be reviewed by the Admission Committee. Admission decisions are emailed to families on March 1 if the application is completed by January 31. After that deadline, the admission process is rolling and you will be contacted with an admission decision within two weeks after the application is complete. Students are frequently enrolled mid-year when spaces are available.
